Look out for Maia Sharp

While her KOCH Records debut won't be available for nearly two more months, it's time to take notice of Maia Sharp. The multi-instrumentalist singer/songwriter has already released a couple of albums, and she wrote the Dixie Chicks' hit "A Home" from their 2002 release Home. Due March 22, Fine Upstanding Citizen is a good CD in the Patty Griffin/Lisa Loeb mold. You can listen to some of Maia's tracks…and while you're there, do a quick sanity check on my behalf—is it just me, or does Maia bear a more-than-passing resemblance to Lauren Graham?

Austin musicians to help tsunami relief

According to Michael Corcoran of the Austin American-Statesman: "Willie Nelson heads a stellar cast of local musicians, including Patty Griffin, Spoon, Joe Ely, Alejandro Escovedo, Bruce Robison and Kelly Willis and the Geezinslaws, who will play the 'Tsunami Relief — Austin to South Asia' concert Sunday [January 9] at the Austin Music Hall. Proceeds from the $25 tickets, available at all Star Tickets outlets, will go to the Red Cross, UNICEF and Doctors Without Borders organizations. If the 3,000-capacity Music Hall doesn't sell out in advance, tickets will be available at the door."
