Dave Little,
Uncomfortable Moments

(3 out of 5)

18th century man of letters Horace Walpole once said "life is a comedy to those who think." If that maxim still holds, then Dave Little just might be the thinking man's muse. The Dallas-based comedian/actor/musician gets the absurdity of life. And he shares his wonderfully skewed worldview on Uncomfortable Moments, his second album and first with producer Salim Nourallah. High points include the playfully trippy "Zoo" and the acerbically accurate "Soccer Mom," plus some nice wordplay in "Mercy on Me" (There surely is a vengeful God / No more space on my iPod / Oh please have mercy on me). But it's not all laughs, as Little reveals his serious side on songs like "Silhouette" and "When It All Goes Wrong (As It Usually Does)." Such tenderness helps give the album shape without weighing it down, and it also validates Little as more than just an observant comic. Nourallah, Carter Albrecht, Chris Holt, and Trey Carmichael are among friends pitching in solid instrumental support, but Uncomfortable Moments ultimately showcases Little as a modern-day, multi-faceted renaissance man.
